Default Are You A Donaldist? WALT DISNEY TREASURES Comics TPBs

Hey, fellow GACers. Jerry Beck, Michael Barrier, Kneon Transitt, and of course our own Thad have been using their great blogs to help me circulate this advert/press release for Gemstone's upcoming Walt Disney Treasures comics TPB.
It hadn't landed on the GAC boards yet, though, so I figured I'd present it here in case anyone wanted to blog it themselves, or pass it further along.

We'll soon be here— http://www.gemstonepub.com/disney
And in the meantime we're here— http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/188847237...glance&n=283155
Spread the word (and the custard pies). Where will we be next?

David, The contents here sound excellent. Gemstone, is definetly making me go to the bank this summer. As for "Race to the South Seas" will you be using the print from Disney's DDA#15. I noticed they were a couple of errors such as the translation. I hate to complain about the cover of the book, the Don Rosa cover looks great. I think Carl Bark's painting "In Uncle Walts Collectory" would be more suitable.

Sorry to correct you, but "South Seas" was reprinted in Disney Comics' Donald Duck Adventures 26 and Gladstone's Carl Barks Library of Donald Duck Adventures 14. I (gulp!) don't think it was ever in issue 15 of anything.
That said, the version of "South Seas" in Treasures is not quite the same as the older Disney or Gladstone reprints, all of which used the reinked Daan Jippes version of the story.
The Treasures version started with the Jippes reink, but we have gone in and replaced a lot of the Jippes art with restored pieces of the original Barks art. The result is a lot more like the Barks original, particularly in the design of Donald's nephews.
We also fixed the translation, as you pointed out, for the two spots where Dutch text was previously left in the story (a note read "Dagobert" instead of Scrooge; a boat was named "Kwaak" instead of Quack).

In fact, I did consider using that painting for the cover! But if you think about it, the subject of the painting is more collectibles in general than comics in particular; the focus is on a stuffed animal. And while I liked showing the Ducks and Mickey together, I preferred a cover featuring Mickey himself, rather than a model of him.
Then there was the fact that while the Barks painting has appeared in many places, the Rosa drawing had only ever appeared in a French comic book, and not even as the cover. I figured it ought to be put to use for its original purpose at last.
Hope you see why I did what I did!

Beautiful painting. And sadly, telling. The ducks are "real" while poor Mickey is just a toy? Almost like they're making fun of the poor lil' guy.

Either that or Donald had him stuffed and mounted during one of his... episodes.

Quite the line-up Gemstone has going in the next few months. I didn't know there had been anything unusual with Barks Race to the South Seas. I for one am pretty excited to see all these new books coming out. Should be a summer with good reading.

When you enter the Amazon site through one of our links, we get a percentage of the sales. Believe me, it helps keep this site afloat!

Plans aren't set in stone yet, but I do have plans for future volumes should the first one sell well. With next year in mind, I'm thinking of a rather special Gottfredson volume and a commemoration of Scrooge's 60th anniversary. But there are many more cool themed collections that it's not so hard to envision...

Ahh. Okay. I've just discovered this site, but it's pretty cool. Just make sure someone publishes those links.
